Optimising Performance in Elite Track & Field: Dr. Paul Brice, Consultant Biomechanist

As a leading biomechanist, Dr. Paul Brice has worked with a host of leading athletes and federations over the last decade to help reduce injury risk and optimise performance in elite sport.

Exploring the challenges and opportunities of working as a biomechanist in elite sport, Paul outlined what applied biomechanical support looks like in practice and identified the contexts in which it is most effective. Looking at the use of athlete tracking technologies in track and field, Paul also explained how different systems are applied to contribute to the athlete monitoring process.

Using his work with the Dutch track and field team as a case study, Paul spoke in depth about the loading fingerprint for elite sprinters and how volume and intensity can be balanced to achieve optimum efficiency.
